Additional Inscriptions
A lovely sentiment many couples and families like to opt for is to be interred with loved ones they have previously lost. A difficult question we must ask when creating a new memorial is how many names will be placed on the memorial. Whilst this is uncomfortable and not nice to think about, it is important to know before engraving the first inscription so we can leave ample room.
When it sadly comes time to engrave an additional inscription, yourselves or your funeral director will reach out to us as we will need to remove the headstone prior to interment. Firstly we will go take a look at the memorial in person and then will send you our quote for the work to be carried out.
Once you’ve confirmed you are happy with the quote we can remove the memorial. As we do for new memorials, we will provide you with a proposed layout of the inscription and the relevant permit form so we can get permission for the additional inscription, whether that is from the local council or Diocese. PGH Memorials strives to find the perfect match in font style and size for additional inscriptions, however, please be aware that older memorials may have been engraved using older-style equipment.
For burials, at least 6 months must have passed prior to refixing a headstone to allow ample time for the ground to settle. For the interment of cremated remains, we likely are able to refix the memorial sooner, but we can discuss this case by case as the relevant authority may have their own rules on this. In either case, we will safely store the memorial at our workshop until it can be fixed again.
If you would like to discuss an additional inscription, please reach out to us and we can assist you further. Please note, we will need to attend the grave site to evaluate what will be required prior to quoting.
