Inscription Advice
A personalised inscription on a beautiful memorial is the perfect way to commemorate your loved one forever.
At PGH Memorials, we want to aid you wherever needed when it comes to knowing what to say. You may be feeling overwhelmed and struggling to find the words to honour your loved one. This is an entirely natural reaction to have when going through a difficult time. Please know, you are not alone.
You can make the inscription as simple or detailed as you like. Typical inscriptions might start with “In loving memory of” followed by their name and date of birth and date of death. This is a very classic and simple inscription, and even this has variations! You may wish to note that they were a loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Perhaps your lost loved one served in the forces and you would like to honour that on their memorial. You may find it helpful to take a stroll through the churchyard or cemetery to see if you spot anything you like.
In most cases at PGH Memorials, we will use a sandblaster to engrave your inscription. This involves a digitally generated stencil which we apply to your memorial, then the sandblaster rapidly shoots sand at the exposed memorial to etch in your inscription. To infill your letters, you have a choice of 22-karat gold leaf or long-lasting enamel paint available in a variety of colours. Please note, churchyards tend to have more regulations around colour options and wording, however, this is something we can advise you on.
You are able to make unlimited changes to your inscription before we engrave it. For your final selection, we ask you to sign and return your inscription layout to us and this will be the exact stencil we use.
